When we had the new flooring put in, we took out all the wainscoting in the back hall. It had been torn apart and slapped back together in a not-too-careful manner when we put the back door back there, nearly twenty years ago. Due to the loss of the wainscoting and the addition of the bench I got from my Mom’s house, I had to reconfigure the storage in the hall.
I tossed out the two racks of coat hooks and the shelves that used to be by the door. For about $60.00 and a few hours of time, I made new racks of hooks for shelves, a new shelf near the door and put in a new shelf for all the baskets, which hold hats and mittens in winter and sunscreen and bug spray in summer. It was the perfect excuse to buy the jigsaw I’ve wanted for years. I had to angle and curve the edges of the shelves to prevent any future shin-barking. We now have more hooks than ever, and plenty of storage.
