Since the last post, I've been to two more fabulous parties. The first was a birthday party to which I was only invited as my Mom's driver. I happened to be with her when the call came that her dear friend (and cousin!) was having a birthday party and wanted Mom and whichever of her daughters could drive her. I yelled at the phone "ME! Me! I'll drive!"
The party was at the Nicolette Island Inn, a wonderful place in the middle of the Mississippi river. It was a beautiful evening to be on the river. There were eight or nine of us women, including several of my second cousins whom I thoroughly enjoy and don't get to see very often. Dinner was lovely and afterwards, we all drove to a park nearby where the plan was to take a boat ride on the river. Mom was having such a good time that she insisted we go check out the boat, rather than just assume she wouldn't be able to board.
One look was enough to convince her that if by some miracle she managed to get aboard the boat, she'd never be able to get back off again, so we bid everyone a good night, happy birthday and thanks for the wonderful dinner.
We took the long, scenic route home; going down the river a ways, then around Lake of the Isles, Calhoun and Harriet. Just for fun, before hopping on the highway for the last leg back to Mom's place, I drove her down around Grass Lake, where I've been walking with #6 this summer. It was the perfect way to spend the evening.
A few days later, Jay and I joined our oldest for dinner in Victoria, a town 25 miles west of us. Ty had just hired a new team, taken them golfing and wanted to introduce them to his Dad, the greatest salesman Ty has ever known. Again, we had a lovely evening with four terrific young (compared to us, anyway) men.
Last night was our annual birthday bash celebrating the Great Josephine. It's hard to wrap my head around the fact that my youngest is now 28. I know it's true...I just don't believe it.
We had ribs, cucumbers, canteloupe, cole slaw, a ceasar salad, cake and root beer floats. There were 15 of us. There could have been more but the cowboy contingent had cowboy stuff to attend to and couldn't make it. They're having a banner rodeo season! Jay and I have already booked rooms for the South Dakota State Rodeo Finals to cheer on the Warrior Princess, who has qualified for at least three events so far. She's quite the cowgirl!
All this goes pretty far to explain why I take so long to post anything: in 40 minutes I'm heading west to hang with BoopityBoop. When I do have time, I have no energy.
