"9 news here just did a story on the re-opening of Colorado, scheduled for next week. They interviewed a vapid college student, who can't wait to get out in the world but sounded like a valley girl, and a 400 lb woman on oxygen who thinks people are really selfish and don't care about her. Those were the only two opinions.
I wanted to throw a brick at fattie. YOU'RE A 400 LB WHALE ON OXYGEN BECAUSE YOU MAKE VERY POOR CHOICES. THOSE CHOICES ARE YOURS. I'VE SPENT 56 YEARS NOT JUDGING YOU FOR YOUR CHOICES, YOU CAN SPEND THE NEXT 56 YEARS NOT JUDGING ME FOR MINE. FUUUUUUUUCK YOUUUUUUUUU. "
We healthy people want to feel sympathy for the sick. Our sympathy and patience is running out. Too many self centered ass holes who can't control themselves think the answer is to control the rest of us.
Do you remember "Non judgementalism"? Apparently what it really meant was "Conform or Die".
No surprise there, everything the Left says actually means "conform or die". I've known that for years. They claim that they value 'diversity' but their love of it is only skin deep. Actual diversity, as in what people think, believe, embrace, value etc, they don't believe in at all. They insist that under our clothes or skin, we're all exactly the same and anyone who threatens that notion must be silenced or destroyed.
Conform or Die.
I think people are complicated, fascinating and under their skin is the only part that matters, so I guess that makes me a 'racist', unlike the old days when the word meant judging and treating people differently because of melanin. The old days are gone, man! Conform or Die.
There's a church down the street from me that has two giant signs hanging on the front steps. One says, in rainbow hues "all are welcome here" and the other says "Really". Those virtue signals have been hanging there so long that the words are nearly faded away to nothing. In Mpls today, they really should change them to say "25% Are Welcome Here" and "Masked".
I've come to the conclusion that Mom's positive test for Wuflu was actually a great gift to our family. It has removed the fear of the virus from most of us. Two of my sisters in law have serious health issues that make C19 a real threat. As of today, I think ten of us have had it with symptoms. At least 8 of us have had it asymptomatically. My brother's entire family (8 of them) recently tested positive for the antibodies; they're all immune to the Wuflu. We've all recovered and have nothing more to fear from that pesky bug. We have no reason to hide in our houses, socially distance from others or wear masks. We aren't a threat and no one is a threat to us! IN fact, hanging out with us could boost herd immunity if that's even a real thing.
Explain this to me: If social distancing works, why are masks necessary? And if masks work, why is social distancing necessary? And if your answer is 'well, we have to do something', then I know you'll quack like a duck when the government demands it.
I know some folks are afraid you can catch it more than once. Well, for fuck's sake, if that's true, what's the point of a vaccine? We're all going to get it and keep getting it till we die so what's the point of hiding from it?
Instead of trying to shame those of us who aren't worried about this bug, the media could and should be running stories on the importance of daily diet and exercise, overall good health and the fact that no government program or health insurance is as importance as taking care of yourself and NOT turning into a 400lb whale who thinks the rest of the world should hide in their houses to protect your giant ass. If you don't care enough about yourself to refrain from destroying your own body, why should I lose my business to prove I care about you? Hey, I'm broke! Are you healthy now? No? Why not, isn't that how this works??
Oh, sorry, I'm being judgmental again.
Well, too damn bad; get used to it.
There are studies out there that show that as many as 2.5% of US kids have peanut allergies. A peanut allergy (as opposed to mere intolerance) means eating peanuts can kill you. The world is full of peanuts so those kids have to learn to protect themselves. We don't outlaw peanuts, destroy the plants and demonize those who grow, sell or eat them even though the percentage of kids to whom peanuts pose a real threat is 1000X greater than the threat Covid 19 poses to those whom it sickens. Even though protecting kids is a lot more important than protecting those in their 80s.
Yes, I said it.
Call me heartless (I'm used to it) but folks in their 80s have lived. As much as we can hope they live much longer, it's really not up to us. Regardless what the rest of us do, they are approaching the end of their days. Apparently it's news to Americans that humans are mortal, we are all going to die and if we're really, really lucky, we'll get 80+ years. I'm not saying we shouldn't help old folks live as well and as long as they can, I'm just saying we shouldn't PLACE THE REST OF THE WORLD ON LOCKDOWN AND DESTROY THE ECONOMY IN A FUTILE ATTEMPT TO KEEP THEM ALIVE FOREVER. Especially since even among the very old, this virus only seems to kill those who are already dying of something else.
If I hear one more person say "better safe than sorry", that person better duck and cover because I can't vouch for my own self control. There's nothing safe about what society is being forced to do.
In fact, I'd describe the lockdowns as the most heartless form of virtue signaling imaginable.
I've heard from a couple of people stories of their mothers, wasting away in lonely isolation at home, kids and grandkids afraid to visit, everyone terrified. That strikes me as far worse than dying of a virus in one's 80s. "Hey, you've only got six months to live, let's make them really memorable by scaring the shit out of you and keeping you lonely and sad for the rest of your days so that I can feel like I CARE THE MOST. Ok? That sound like a plan to you?"
I'm only 60 but if I were offered the choice of living to 90 but never see my grandkids again or die next year, I'll take the year with my grandkids, thank you very much. I don't think I'll change my mind as I get older but who knows? My grandkids could grow up to be jerks.
No they won't. Even if they did, I wouldn't think so. I'm Nana, that's how I roll.
Children, on the other hand, are the seed corn. They are quite literally the future and a society that doesn't protect its kids is one with no interest or stake in its own future.
And yet you can buy peanuts everywhere. Because we know that we can't rid the world of peanuts, so those poor kids need to learn to protect themselves.
I don't want to ban fried foods, alcohol, sweets, tobacco or any of the unhealthy things we all enjoy doing. I think it's part of what makes living in a free country wonderful. If you want to be a 400lbs and have trouble getting out of bed, I think it's your right to do so.
But I'm not going to agree to unending house arrest because Big Fat Fanny doesn't want to take responsibility for her own health. And she's got some nerve calling the rest of us selfish for not stopping her in her quest for self destruction.
The Bible is full of admonishments against virtue signaling. God wants us to follow his commandments out of love for Him; not to show off or to shame each other.
Of course, He doesn't want us calling each other names like Big Fat Fanny, either. Hey, I'm no saint.
But at least I don't blame the rest of the world for my shortcomings and I don't think you should have to stay locked up at home, lonely, broke and frightened until I shape up. That sounds like Hell to me.
