We managed to squeeze another day of fun in, after the tournament.
Monday, some visited our favorite neighborhood book store, then headed down to the lake. I met up with that crowd just past the fishing dock and MJ and her kids caught up with us a few minutes later. The whole parade walked around the lake together. It was an absolutely perfect summer day: clear, blue skies; a slight breeze and not muggy.
We got to the bandstand and ordered lunch. Burgers! Ice cream! While we ate, we were joined by Josie and Hootie!
Josie went and got ice cream cups for herself and Meg and as she passed my table, Meg’s two scoop cup of ice cream literally leapt from Josie’s hand to go face down on the concrete! Fortunately, it wasn’t soft serve and only the tip of the top scoop touched the ground. We didn’t let all that ice cream go to waste, Not being a bunch of germ-o-phobes.
After lunch, we continued on our walk. Instead of heading toward the boats, we turned and went up through the park. Then we walked down Queen, past the house we grew up in and down past the trolley station and up to Linden Hills Blvd, which is one of the most beautiful residential streets in the world. Seriously, I defy anyone to come up with a prettier city than Minneapolis in summer. I’ve been to Paris and San Francisco and while they’re very nice, they’re no Minneapolis in summer. Sure, in winter it’s the third ring of Hell but in Summer? Heaven!
The crew from out West had a plane to catch early in the evening, so when we reached their car, said goodbye. Then MJ, her kids and I continued around the lake to her car, then I went the last two blocks to my own. It was a perfectly lovely way to spend the day.
The bad news about getting older is you don’t have time for a two week fun-fest. The good news is that you’re too tired for more. If you had to party for more than three or four days, you’d jump ship. So it all works out!
Short Hubbellpalooza was a great success.
