Today is our 42nd wedding anniversary!
We began it early, at the 7 a.m. mass at the Basilica of St. Mary. Jay is a regular at that mass and so we've become very friendly with the other regulars. The mass is lovely and quick, with no singing. Afterward there's coffee and sometimes donuts in the hall outside the chapel. It's great but it takes place an hour before I usually wake up. I can't help it that I'm wired for late nights and late mornings. I'm glad I was there today. It was cool and drizzly all morning. By lunchtime, it had cleared up and we had lunch at a seafood restaurant nearby. We'd never eaten there before but heard that the food was good. The rumors were true; we were both delighted with our meals. I had a crab-cake that was terrific and Jay had a wedge salad and clam chowder, both of which he gave two thumbs up. We ate out on the veranda, which had been decorated in blue and white with umbrellas, trees and enough pots of flowers so that you couldn't even tell you were basically sitting in a parking lot. It felt just like we were on the water, without having to drive all the way to Lake Minnetonka.
When evening came, we sat on the hill, watching baseball games and the sunset, then had chicken kabobs on the grill. All in all, a wonderful way to celebrate our anniversary.
And now it's 9:00 p.m. and I'm so tired my eyes are crossing.
