We stopped to fill our tank and our bellies in some tiny little town right on the highway. We ate at Ruthie's Family Style Diner and our breakfast was first rate. The diner is one of those small town places where everyone is a regular and if the food is always that good, why wouldn't you be a regular?
The day remained grey and wet all the way down to the cities. Good for all the new sod that we had laid in the backyard while we were gone. It wasn't hot but it was very sticky, so after we hit the afternoon Mass at Annunciation and picked up the fixings for turkey sandwiches for dinner, we closed the house back up and turned on the air. I wouldn't have but Jay is very finicky about sleeping sticky. He has enough trouble sleeping, I don't need to pile humidity onto him. Besides, by the time I go to bed, around midnight, it's usually cooled down enough outside for me to crack the window next to the bed. He gets his dehumidified air and I get mine fresh. Everyone's happy.
While the house cooled down, I sat out on the porch (with all the windows open) and put up the new string of summer lights that Amazon delivered while I was gone. Out with the colorful lights and in with clear! The new lights are so bright that I didn't even have to turn on the lamp next to the couch to work while I watched a movie.
I watched Aquaman. It wasn't as bad as I was afraid it would be. Kal Drogo was pretty good and there were actually some good lines but the CGI was so predominant that I frequently felt like I was watching a straight up cartoon and all the action sequences had the boring quality of a video game being played by someone else.
Maybe I'm just super-heroed out. I haven't even bothered to see the last two or three Marvel Movie episodes and I loved those.
While I watched, I also did a lot of work on an order I've been putting off because it required a lot of research that I didn't want to do. As usual, once I actually started, the ideas came fast and furious and it wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it was going to be. Of course, the order had been percolating in my head for a few weeks; that's always helpful. Maybe Aquaman helped too, who knows?
It was nice to sleep in my own bed again. Even if the air conditioner was on.
