Epiphany is here but I’m not used to 2016. Babies who couldn’t walk when the towers fell in New York will get their drivers licenses this year. Except for the ones who won’t.
Ah, what do we care? We’re a nation who gives tax money to an organization that profits off the sale of baby organs. Maybe we are the Great Satan, what would the difference be?
No.
We are not.
Too many of us retain the ability to be horrified by the news that comes out of the Middle East, Germany, Syria and Planned Parenthood.
Wow, this post is off to a fun filled start.
Let me begin again; Two weeks after Christmas day, I’m still not ready to get back into my work groove. I’ve got a ton of orders upstairs, waiting for me to fill them but I don’t want to buckle down. I don’t want to take down my Holiday decorations, read any of the books I’m halfway through or start any new projects. I just want to flutter around accomplishing nothing. This is unlike me. Or maybe it’s not.
Despite the fact that the days have been getting longer for over two weeks now, it still seems like they’re so short I can’t possibly get anything done. No sooner do I finish eating breakfast but it seems like the sun has set and in the dusky gloom all I can think is “Yay, I can eat dinner and watch Frasier!”
The only way to shake myself out of this mode is to go upstairs and make myself get to work. I’ve been self-employed since I was 14, I have the discipline to do this.
In the meantime, Jay, Zack and I went for brunch last Sunday at Bunny’s. We were joined by some of our favorite people, Ron and Kathleen. Bunny’s is a great place for brunch and it was lovely to touch base with them. We used to hang out all the time but life has changed since those days. Things are all good; we exchanged photos of grandkids.
On Tuesday, I finished running all my errands and when I got home I asked Zack if he had to work later.
“No, Katie and I are going to see Star Wars.”
Score! That’s even better than I was hoping for! Katie had already bought tickets at a theater between us and her work that lets you reserve actual seats. We met her there at dinnertime. The theater wasn’t very full so there was no problem with the seats. The show was 3D. The picture was fuzzy for the first minute or so but after several complaints, they fixed whatever was wrong and it was great. I don’t mind 3D as much as I thought I would. It doesn’t add much in most movies but Gravity was very cool in 3D.
Yesterday, Jay’s team had a game down south. Ty went to the game, I went to the ranch and had dinner with Megan and the kids. Babalouie is perfectly ready to put his football aside and play basketball now. He’s working hard on dribbling. He had a plastic ball for each of us and he and I worked on dribbling all over the house while Megan made spaghetti. After dinner, the four of us snuggled on the couch and watched Singin’ in the Rain, which Megan had never seen in its entirety.
The kids both got up and danced along with the opening numbers but Make ‘em Laugh had them laughing their little patooties off at Donald O’Connor’s antics.
That movie is simply perfect.
The team won and the men brought us pizza when they arrived at the house a little after 10:30.
Everyone had a terrific evening and I fell asleep within minutes of reaching home around midnight.
I have no more excuses: I have to get upstairs and go to work.
