I spent the afternoon up at Katie’s, playing with her babies. Katie is trying to train them to sleep in their crib. They’re getting better at it. When I arrived, Boopity was asleep in the crib but Boop was bright eyed and bushy tailed so Katie said I could take her out and play with her. I did.
We had a lovely hour together before her sister woke up and joined us.
I knew that they were on the verge of being able to smile so I’ve been pulling out all my tricks I've ever used that tiny babies like. I was on the couch with Boopity and we were playing a version of patty-cake when she smiled at me! Not only did she smile, her grin widened till her mouth opened and she laughed! It wasn’t just a little giggle either, it was a full throated laugh. Katie was right over my shoulder; I just wish she'd had time to make a video of Boopity's first laugh.
A half hour later, I placed Boopity on her play mat on the floor for a little tummy time while I changed Boop’s diaper. Not ten seconds after I put Boopity down on her tummy, she flipped herself over onto her back!
“she flipped over!” I yelled. Katie was sitting on the couch right next to us but the coffee table was in the way. She peeked around it to see Boopity, laying on her back and yelling because she didn’t want to be on the floor at all.
“Did you put her on her tummy?” Katie asked. I had but Boopity had rolled over almost immediately. First a laugh, then a roll: what a day!
Later on, I played the patty-cake game with Boop and almost got her laughing. She cracked a wide grin at me but I stopped playing because Katie wasn’t in the room and I didn’t think I should get Boop to laugh for the first time if her Mom couldn’t see it. Not after she missed Boopity’s first roll.
It was a great day.
