In Minnesota, the seasons are so different from each other that its easy to mark the passage of time and while the weather is usually much nice in September than in June, the ninth month has the detrimental baggage of being closer to the always approaching next winter.
Winter is coming may have been popularized by Game of Thrones as the motto of the house of Stark but in Minnesota it's a thought that is never far from anyone's mind.
Nine times out of ten, June in Minnesota is gray and rainy. May is usually glorious but June is when clouds appear, bringing along humidity that lasts until September.
I'm past the age where the school year has an effect on me. I don't even have to worry about my kids' school schedules. Sure, I'll probably be helping Josie move into her apartment in late August but that's nothing compared to the days when your kids' school schedules rule your life.
And I like winter. I like the cold weather, I like not having the distraction of nice days tearing me away from work, I like bundling up and taking on the cold, the wind etc. and I like the frozen freshness of the air. Most of all, I like the effect on the light that snow has. Maybe its just me but when its winter and the trees are bare, I can hardly remember what the world was like when it was warm and green.
Now it's June and I can't remember what it was like when I couldn't sit here in front of an open window, breathing in the scent of rain, mud and grass. I love summer!
The nicest part of June is that its the beginning. Long, fun summer stretches ahead of us. Right now, at this moment, it feels like time is slowing down.
I know it'll be over in the blink of an eye but right now it feels permanent.
We already have so many fun things planned this summer! Trips, shows, visitors, parties, weddings...all good!
My three nephews graduated (with honors). On Jay's side of the family, two of our great nieces and a nephew have as well.
This evening, I'm going to a rodeo.
I do love summer.
