The tradition was only waning a bit because Katie's actual kids are growing up. Her youngest is a junior in high school and technically too old for trick or treating but that's where MJ and her brood come in. Andy's still got a few young enough to trick or treat but last year they all got invited to parties so it was beginning to look like we'd have no little kids to use as an excuse to trick or treat.
The last few years were pretty funny; four little kids being followed up and down the blocks by eight or nine adults. We didn't actually beg for any candy, we just wanted to join the fun.
Anyway, with Margy as an excuse, Katie fired up the chili pot, moved the fire pit into the front yard and pulled out all the old decorations. Even the weather cooperated! the wind, which was blustery and insistent on Monday and again today, agreed to stay calm on the big night.
For awhile, we hoped Ty and Megan would drag the kids up to town but no one was terribly surprised when they decided to just do their own neighborhood, instead. I'm sure they had a terrific time!
The only thing that kept me from hoping in the car and heading down to the ranch to trick or treat with them was the promise that Katie and Adam were bringing BoopityBoop to the party.
We'd been tossing about fun things for the babies to be for Halloween since we found out there were two of them. Thing One and Thing Two, Hall and Oates, Angel and Devil etc. Katie came up with some winners.
I don't usually dress up for Halloween but Katie had a great idea for me just a couple of days ago. All I needed was a blondish wig and thanks to pop culture, that was an easy fix.
The party was also joined by the entire cast of Schitt's Creek!
Katie, Adam and the girls arrived, having changed out of their Toy Story gear into their evening costumes.
Halloween is not about making babies cry. Is it?
Once we stopped trying to get those silly wigs on them, the girls had a swell time. We bundled them up in hats and blankets, gave them their bottles and took them trick or treating. They seemed to like it just fine but what they really enjoyed was being back at the party afterward. They were both quite playful and smiley once they got over the confusion of seeing everyone they know dressed in weird costumes. They didn't like me in the blond wig. Or maybe it was the scar Zack had drawn across my face. Once I took the wig off and put my glasses on, they liked me just fine.
I have to say that everyone's costumes were superb this year but the evening's honors went to Josie. When she arrived, she blew the competition away!
Best.
Costume.
EVER.
