Jay spent yesterday fishing. The day was hot, sunny and windless. I got a lot done; some successful some not so much.
I tried to cut a couple of pieces of glass I’d bought for frames. I have a glass cutter which I’ve used before to cut framing glass. Yesterday, both pieces broke when I tried to snap off the cut section. What a mess. No wonder they were on clearance at Michaels.
After the glass fiasco (gliasco?) I painted the table top for the kid’s table. I had an idea of what it would look like and managed to paint the whole first coat but it took a while. I was still painting the last ring of stripes when Jay got home at 8:30 with a cooler full of crappie filets. He cooked up dinner while I cleaned out brushes.
The fish was spectacular.
I’ve always been a fan of crappies and fish that was freshly caught just a few hours earlier is always the tastiest.
I didn’t realize how sore I was until I went to bed. Stretching out flat, I finally noticed that every muscle in my arms, chest, back and hands were aching. A good ache; the kind from working hard. But it was hard to sleep. The temperatures fell all night but the humidity rose.
I should have taken a shower to ease the muscles and eliminate the sticky but like an idiot, I didn’t.
Because I’m an idiot.
I was tired!
I was still tired at 4:30 am, when I finally fell asleep.
Today is cool and clammy. It started raining around 3. I got up and closed windows all over the house, which was kind of a shame since the rain smelled as good as it sounded. I don’t mind an occasional rainy day; the aroma of the rain is worth the damp and dark.
I put the second coat on the table top. Now I just have to wait for it to dry completely and I can start varnishing. I may get the whole thing finished before the kids get here tomorrow night.
I see in the news that former speaker of the House, Denny Hestert, is in deep legal trouble. It appears he’s been paying blackmail to cover up some disreputable behavior on his part.
My reaction: Really?? Who cares what a guy who hasn’t held office for five years has been doing? Why isn’t anyone demanding the heads of the former president and his wife, a former secretary of state who have been raking in millions by selling access to the highest reaches of our federal government under the paper thin guise of giving speeches?
I’m not saying Hestert should be left alone; if he’s guilty of a crime, he should be prosecuted and jailed. What I am saying is that it’s not headline worthy news.
The treachery of the Clinton’s, however, is worth trumpeting from the rooftops.
