Last Sunday, in addition to being Father’s Day, was Jay’s birthday. It rained off and on all day. We didn’t do a birthday dinner but Jay had tickets to see Boz Scaggs at the zoo with his sister, so he was super pumped.
Since he had plans for the evening, I didn’t have to miss my art class. Everybody wins!
The evening was far and away the nicest part of the day. Twelve hours of overcast disappeared as we set up our easels overlooking the sidewalk winding through the flower beds. There were three of us this class and we set up right next to the exit of the three mile drive, so we had lots of spectators. People are always very nice but I don’t like to engage, big surprise. I’m very good at ignoring them. Nearly six decades of practice, blocking out distractions and people I don’t want to talk to, I should be good at it.
I was very intimidated by the view we were attempting to paint and I said so. We were looking at flower beds, trees, distance and a sunset slanting through the trees to our right. Our fearless leader assured us he was going to show us how to simplify, break it down and paint a garden.
We had a lovely three hours, standing in one of earth’s gorgeous spots, staring at the beauty and beating ourselves senseless trying to get it on canvas.
MY FAVORITE THING!
And Jay had a wonderful time at the zoo with his sister, listening to one of their favorite artists.
It was a happy birthday for everyone.
Happy Birthday, Sweetie.
