Yeah, he's not thrilled with it either. We both miss Mom. I miss Jay, my own bed and sleeping more than 2 hours at a time. I miss being able to wait a few days to do laundry. I miss exercise. I miss not being exhausted and I'm not even sick. I thank God I'm not sick, my Dad's not sick and Mom is getting better.
I'm not doing this alone. I've had all the help I can get. One night, my brother Andy stayed so I could sleep and I got 12 hours in. Another night, my son Zack gave up a night so I could get 10 hours in. Heidi moved Heaven and Earth to find a home health care service that had people who were willing to venture in here and help us out. If all goes according to plan, tonight will be the last night I have to take care of Dad on my own. All things considered, we have it great.
Seriously. It's great!
This place we moved my folks to in '18 is bending over backwards to keep all the residents safe and to help me care for Dad while he's here on his own. Every afternoon, a menu appears outside our door, I order our meals for the next day and they deliver them right on time. They're picking up our garbage door to door too, so none of the residents have to worry about wandering around in public spaces where illness lurks.
It's not even boring yet!
My days are filled with chores, both for the unit and for Dad, and cramming naps in here and there. The internet gets iffy once in a while but so far not for very long, so we're able to see that everything is the same out there. I also have books to read and a large collection of DVDs, if the streaming gets gummed up. Most importantly, Dad and Mom are fine, I'm fine, my kids are fine, my siblings are and those who have gone down with fevers are all in good overall health and getting better.
Plus, I'm doing a coronavirus pandemic novena and praying with people all over the world. Back in the days of the Black plague, they didn't have that support!
Yes. I'm a Jesus Freak. Always have been. All we have to do is turn from our wicked ways and this too shall pass.
"May you live in interesting times" is a very old curse that clever people have slipped in, masquerading as a toast to their enemies. Well, we're all living in an interesting time right now and I don't have an enemy in the world.
