I was supposed to bring some decorative corn to my painting class for my still life set up. We did corn last autumn. My painting was notsuccessful. I neglected to buy any corn and suddenly it was the night before my class and I had no subject matter. Okay, maybe I really didn’t want to paint another stupid corn painting, so I didn’t bother to buy any stupid corn.
After I packed my paint bag, I grabbed a cute little pitcher I’d found in the back of Mom’s cupboard. Then I went out to the deck and snipped several vines off of the orange begonia in our back yard. All the begonias on the deck this year were spectacular but the orange one was the Queen of the back yard. It was award worthy but no matter how big and gorgeous it is, winter is coming and that plant’s days are numbered.
So I decided to immortalize in in oils.
