Still, a few days after I got home, a huge bouquet of the most beautiful tulips you've ever seen arrived at my house.
I mean really, is there a more wonderful harbinger of spring than tulips? I don't think so. Although, the other evening, as Jay and I walked home with our pizza, we stopped over the Minnehaha creek and noticed that the trees over our head, which are still bare, were filled with robins. We counted at least 15 of them in the trees on either side of the bridge. Tulips, robins and Lake Harriet has been completely free of ice since March 31st. Spring is here, no matter how many snow flurries we get.
Yesterday was clear and sunny. Jay and I walked around the lake at about 4:30, when the day was at its warmest. It was about 50 degrees. Without a cloud in the sky and virtually no wind, the lake was a popular place. What was exciting for us, though, was that we saw not only an eagle (very high above the bird sanctuary) but at least 4 loons. Four! The loons are back on Lake Harriet!! Yay!
Back to the bouquet of tulips; they are gorgeous and have lasted nearly week now with little sign of fading or drooping but someday they will be done. That's just how it goes with cut flowers. The part that I will save is the note that came with it. That, I will cherish until Jay cleans out my card drawer and throws everything away. He's not sentimental, I am.
Wouldn't you save this card?
After we walked around the lake yesterday, we sat out on the front hill and watched the sun set. It was absolutely lovely.
