Not just snow but a half inch of ice beneath. Jay saw one fender bender and several near misses while he carefully cleared our driveway. The sun was out, so the snow and ice didn't last too long. By the time I hit the road for my Tuesday errands, it was only icy where the shadows held sway but the morning commute must have been horrific.
My Halloween costume ( the first I've put much thought into in years) was ready. Back in September, with the news of Jimmy Buffett's death, my sister decided that this year's Halloween party would be Jimmy Buffett themed. We all came as illustrations of songs, albums or characters from his music and I think we did a pretty good job!
We tried to talk Mom into being Carmen Miranda (They Don't Dance Like Carmen No More) but she didn't think she could rock that hat.
Wonder how in the hell I got here, without a disguise.-- Desperation Samba
We also had some non-Buffett characters, as BoopityBoop are totally into Harry Potter these days. They made a splendid Harry and Hermione and their Mom made a duo-purpose costume to go with them.
The snow and ice was nearly all gone by dark but it was cold. Mike didn't light a bonfire as in years past and Mom stayed inside. Zach didn't take #6 trick or treating, as she's too young to know what she was missing and like I said; it was cold. BoopityBoop and Tot didn't mind the cold: they wanted to keep going for hours. Tot was a very scary Zombie and his groan kinda freaked me out. His sisters and some friends were with us, too. I'm glad they're not too old to dress up and trick or treat.
Down in their neck of the woods, Xena, Babalouie and Kitten were dressed to the max and had Halloween fun with their friends.
It was a very fun Halloween and BoopityBoop generously shared their candy haul with me.
Later on in the week, I went to see the Taylor Swift Era's Tour movie with both daughters, Sara, Nick and the twins. We had seats at the very top of the theater, so we could wave our arms and get up and dance without bothering anyone else. Not that it mattered: everyone in the theater was behaving likewise. Up at the top, where we were, there was space for about a dozen little girls who danced and sang through the entire three hour show and I could see that the space in front of the screen was also filled with dancing bodies. Those who remained seated were also bopping to their hearts' content. It was a blast! I've been a fan since her early country days but I wasn't expecting such an extravaganza. Her current tour is less like a rock show and more like a one woman musical review. Some numbers were one act plays. The stage, the sets, the costumes were all marvelous and just the fact that she could keep going for so many songs was impressive as all get out. Also: So Many Great Songs! She's simply amazing. Katie saw the show live, twice and doesn't hesitate to declare TS a genius. Hard to argue with.
I have always been a lyrics person and TS writes with a bone deep poetry that few have achieved. There are thousands of songs that talk about heartbreak but she's the only one who accurately describes it; "I'm a crumpled up piece of paper lying here" is about as apt as it gets. I've heard non fans say that she only writes about what she's wearing but that's as silly as saying Jimmy Buffett only wrote about drinking and sailing. Everything is superficial when you only skim the surface.
It's me, hi, I'm the problem, it's me.
I can easily imagine this movie becoming a Rocky Horror style once a week party for years to come but not at the current ticket prices. I'd go again but I can't afford $30.00 again. Is that what movies cost now? No wonder the art is dying. For that kind of money, you'd better give me 3 hours of glitz, glamour, singing and dancing fun.
Boopity was already a Swiftee and now she wants to know how you get a job as a dancer on her tour. Boop was not a big fan (she prefers Dolly Parton) but she loved the movie, too.
If DVDs are still a thing, I'd buy The Eras Tour when it comes out.
Jimmy Buffett's last album, Equal Strain on All Parts, came out this week. It's really good.
I hope next week is as fun as last week was.
