On Wednesday, I went over to Mom and Dad’s old house to touch up some paint along the baseboards that had gotten a tad scraped when the kitchen and living room floors were redone. The realtor told them he could ask $10,000.00 more if they redid those floors, so naturally we had them done. We were all pretty excited to get the house on the market. It has been eight months since they moved out, the whole house has been buffed and shined to perfection and we’re all ready to sell the thing and be done with it.
Margy did a spectacular job fixing it up. She put in new doors throughout the upstairs, removed all the window coverings, switched out all the light fixtures, bought a new refrigerator, scrubbed all the other appliances till they looked like new, had every wall in the house repainted, turned all the dark woodwork white and finally, all the floors redone. The house looks magnificent and Mom and Dad can’t be blamed for wanting to move back in but their time in that house has passed: it’s time for someone else. The plan was to have the photos taken on Monday, the lawn cleaned up on Tuesday, the house to be listed on Friday and the first Open House on Sunday. Margy sent us all a link to see the listing online. The house looked fabulous!
I’d link to it here but it’s no longer available, as the house SOLD ON FRIDAY!!
Andy, who was working closely with the realtor, kept us all in the loop so we knew that there were upwards of 20 viewings on Friday but things happened so fast there was no time to tell the rest of us until it was over. Long story short, not only did the house sell inside of 12 hours, my folks got $30,000.00 over the asking price!!!
I nearly collapsed from the relief of it!
All those months of (mostly Margy’s) hard work paid off in spades.
Jay said he wasn’t surprised at all: it’s a lovely home in a great neighborhood and who wouldn’t want to live there?
He’s right, of course. I watch a lot of HGTV and I know that kitchen’s sell houses and my Mom designed a world class kitchen for that house. She’s a cook and she crafted a kitchen that allowed her to be part of the party while cooking up a storm for 50 people. Margy’s plan for the rest of the house was to make sure it didn’t detract from the impression buyers got when they walked in the front door and saw that great room.
Good plan, Marg. Good plan.
I hope it closes soon. I’d really like to be done with this chapter.
