Ramping up the Madness of the Month, I got sick. I’ve been battling a chest cold with a relentless cough since last Tuesday night. I marked the moment it began because I was up late, watching the end of season 2 of Big Bang Theory when I noticed I had to clear my throat several times. By morning, I was hacking. Like an idiot, I didn’t think to start Zicamming immediately so the cough that tortured Jay two weeks ago for two days has been tormenting me for six.
It’s not all bad, though.
On Wednesday, I returned to the property Ty liked best with the realtor (my niece, Ellie) and we walked the whole property. It’s simply beautiful. Ellie took video of the whole place and emailed it to Megan so she could get a good look. They made an offer by the end of the week and may come up this week to inspect the place.
The stars are aligning on this piece and if all goes well, my grandkids could be living within 35 minutes of me by June.
YAY!
On Thursday, Zack came back. He’d tired of Colorado and is reassessing his options.
Last week, I was missing my kids. ON Saturday 3 of them were here for dinner and now the fourth has come back too! I think it and it happens.
Sweet.
More madness all over the place: My nephew’s team played in the Minnesota State championship game yesterday. He’s only a sophomore so I knew he wouldn’t play but he did suit up and I got to see him on TV, looking all big and athletic on the bench, cheering on his team. They didn’t win but what a blast, to play for the title!
Elsewhere, my great niece, (Jay’s oldest brother Jim’s grand daughter), just lead her team to their state championship! She was named the tournament MVP. She’s only a junior so we’ll have several more years to watch her play. Jim sent us a highlight reel. The girl is a flat out stud.
Last night I watched the Ten Commandments. I have the restored version and it looks magnificent. I love that movie.
Yes, the acting is cheesy and the script is too but it’s all good cheese. Because it’s so stylized from beginning to end, it thoroughly works, like the Operatic Comic book look of 300. Its very different from the hyper reality of most movies made nowadays but I love that old, theatrical style of acting. So you know they’re acting, so what? I find a cheesy Charlton Heston a far more compelling Moses than a natural Christian Bale.
I shouldn’t jump the gun, I haven’t actually seen Exodus yet. I want to. The only part of the Ten Commandments that could be better are the special effects, of course. . Watching the Angel of Death coming across the sky as a sickly green smoke is still one of the scariest movie effects I’ve ever seen but the pillars of fire look like crayon cartoons. I’m glad no one thought to George Lucas them, though. They’re very sweet in their simplicity.
Yul Brynner is so great as the Pharoah!
I can’t think of two current Hollywood stars who are as Manly Mannish as Heston and Brynner. Both are just great big chunks of testosterone, one a manifestation of all the manly virtues: honesty, integrity, valor, compassion and strength while the other all the manly faults; arrogance, violence and stubbornness. Both are hotter than all get out. Anne Baxter must have enjoyed her part immensely. I would have.
And then she married Ronald Reagan. Hmmm. Of course, she divorced him too but she never said a word against him.
I slept until 11:30 this morning and then Zack made me breakfast. I need to cowboy up and get better.
Too much madness left this March to miss it all by feeling crappy.
