My hometown is full of celebrities, thanks to the Superbowl being played here on Sunday. I’ve heard that the security is ramped up through the roof, with police and even military presence all over down town, streets closed all around the stadium and heightened security at the Mall of America and the hotels where the teams are staying. It’s had no effect on me, as I don’t go anywhere near those places.
The weather is cooperating with the locals. We’d all pretty much hoped to give the visitors a big dose of Minnesota in February and Mother Nature has acquiesced. In addition to the foot of snow we got nearly two weeks ago, a few more inches were added overnight earlier this week and the temperatures, which had soared into the 40s a week ago, have plunged below zero again.
When I got up this morning, it was 11 below.
That’s what I’m talking about!
I think our state motto should be “Minnesota: It’s not for everyone.”
I had to get to my painting class this morning, so I made sure the car was well warmed up before I hit the road.
As usual, I had a lot of fun painting but I couldn’t stay for the whole class. I had to leave at noon because Katie was dropping the girls off here shortly after lunch time. Boopity Boop are spending their first weekend here with us!
We’ve got two cribs set up for them in the little bedroom and I’ve baby proofed and gated the living room so we can hang out there.
So far, it’s all worked out brilliantly. I gave them lunch, which they ate enthusiastically, then took a short nap. They didn’t sleep very long but they fell asleep without any fuss. We spent the afternoon playing and listening to music. I put on several different styles of music to see what they like. I played show tunes, American classics and some folk music. They like everything.
When Zack got home, he played with them for quite a while. They think he’s the greatest thing in the world. He plopped them both on the couch and they bounced from one end of it to the other while Zack made sure neither of them launched themselves off either end, which they thought was the best game ever invented.
They worked up a huge appetite and when I gave them dinner, they ate an entire box of mac n’ cheese, all the leftover peas, a quarter of a banana, a handful of veggie straws and a whole bowl of tropical fruit for dessert. I just kept putting food on their trays for as long as they kept shoveling it into their mouths. About a quarter of it ended up down their shirts, on their seats or on the floor but most of it went into their tummies.
I gave them a bath afterward, as they were such a mess. I wouldn’t have been able to if Zack hadn’t been here to help. Two naked, wet babies are nothing to take lightly. He kept an eye on Boop while I got Boopity dried off and into her jammies. Then he gave Boopity her bottle while I got Boop into her jammies.
A week ago, I was helping Katie get the girls ready for bed and noticed that they were in danger of popping the seams of their jammies. They had outgrown their 9mos size. The next time I went to Sam’s Club, all their baby jammies that featured Christmas motifs were deeply discounted so I dug through the piles until I’d found two pair of each in size 12. Now BoopityBoop have enough warm pajamas to last until spring. I got six pairs for the price of one! I love it when that happens.
I put them in matching green sets tonight. Tomorrow, I think I’ll mix it up a bit; one in red and the other in pink.
They didn’t want to go to sleep. They polished off their bottles in no time but objected to bed. So, I got them up for a while and they played in the TV room while I tried to watch season 5 of Downton Abbey, which didn’t quite work. I know Lady Edith chose to set fire to her bedroom and Lady Mary had an affair with a dolt she consequently dumped but aside from that, I don’t know what happened.
The girls decided it was their job to pull all the DVDs off the shelves. They are good little workers.
I put them back to bed after an hour and they fell asleep.
Now, I think I’d better get to bed. I’m going to need a good night sleep to keep up with those two tomorrow.
When they start to walk, they’re going to run me ragged.
