It had turned into a pretty nice day so we spent a large chunk of the afternoon outside. In theory, I sat and read my book while they explored their enormous back yard but in reality, I had to inspect every stick, leaf and acorn they found. They were super excited by that acorn, btw. I was impressed that they knew the word 'acorn' and that they knew that's what it was when they brought it to me, shrieking "Nana! Nana! Acorn! Acornacornacorn!!"
The girls were not alone in expecting me to join them in their explorations and play. The dog never stopped imploring me to toss her ball far and wide as long as we were all outside. I didn't mind playing but the bubbles got annoying. There were two bottles of bubbles in the bottom of the stroller, which the girls found after our walk on Saturday. They loved chasing the bubbles around but naturally, after a short while they wanted to be the ones blowing them. Boopity was good at it right away but I had to demonstrate for Boop how to purse her lips, like a kiss, rather than a raspberry, to blow properly through the wand to make bubbles. Soon, the air was full of bubbles. then they fought over who had which wand and which bottle of bubbles it was dipped into. So, I held both bottles as they dipped and blew bubbles.
Do you know how long it takes to be completely soaked in liquid soap while toddlers are pretending to blow bubbles? I do. It's not very long at all. It was a beautiful, sunny, slimey day.
Eventually, we went inside, everyone used the potty chair, the girls ate a champion dinner and we watched Hercules.
By the time Adam got home, I was about ready to pass out and sleep for a week.
I got home just as Jay was pulling a half dozen brats off the grill. Good timing!
I slept like a dead thing all night and awoke fairly refreshed.
It's quiet in my house. I love it.
