Jay had told me he might come up for a visit but that he'd let me know when he was coming. I believe I'd told him I thought the girls would be up from their naps at about 2. As it was, he didn't text and I didn't get them down until later than I had planned, all of which meant he arrived at the house before they had fallen asleep.
We decided, since they hadn't fallen asleep, we'd get them up to play. We took them to the park a few blocks from the house and they had a blast on the swings and slide. We were there for about a half an hour. Then we came home, everyone went potty, Coach said bye-bye and it was nap time.
WRONG!!
Boop fell asleep but Boopity decided that since nap time had been postponed, it had been forfeited. She screamed in her bed until I gave up (about an hour. How long can you listen to sustained screaming?) and went to get her. When I entered the room, I nearly fell over laughing. Boop was out cold but Boopity was in her crib, stark naked, with her onesie stuck on the backs of her arms. I have no idea how she got out of her sleep sack or how long she'd been stuck like that but no wonder she couldn't sleep! She was basically doing the rope torture on her herself.
She got over her rage and frustration very quickly and we sat on the couch, reading books until Boop woke up.
they ate a tremendous dinner. Between the two of them they wolfed down an entire package of mashed sweet potatoes and carrots and a large chunk of liver worst. I couldn't get them to eat their beans. They seem to be going through an aversion to green food phase. One of the great things about being a grandmother is that's not my problem.
They continued to do very well as far as the potty training is going. After dinner, they both used the chairs and Boop even pooped in the potty for the second day in a row. Boopity showed no signs of needing to do so.
After dinner, everyone had a cookie and then we watched Tarzan again. They leapt onto the coffee table and did their Tarzan yells for me and when he killed the leopard, they both lifted blankies up over their heads just like he does with the big cat's corpse. I suppose when they go hunting with their dad for the first time, they're going to expect him to heave the deer carcass over his head and yodel. Maybe he does that anyway, what do I know about hunting?
Boopity was more than ready for bed, having skipped her nap but Boop was not so easily put down. She insisted on staying up with me until nearly 9. And it's not like she just played while I watched Catastrophe on Amazon, no; she insisted on me reading every book in the house to her, while sitting on my lap, face to face. It was great! But when I finally pointed out to her that it was pitch dark outside, the middle of the night in fact and that she should have been asleep for hours, I was exhausted.
The ramifications of the abrogated nap were still reverberating this morning. They woke after 8 and had a lovely breakfast but even before I got them dressed, the fighting began. No matter what toy one of the them had, the other wanted it and no one was willing to give an inch of ground.
They brawled.
They decided they wanted to go outside. They brought me their favorite boots, we put them on and ran out into the back yard where they fought over the bubbles. They'd found two bottles of bubbles in the stroller the day before and we'd had some fun blowing them. Boopity is really good at it, Boop is not. Boop was getting very angry at not being able to blow any bubbles. She thought her bubble solution was the problem and tried to steal Boopity's. So we switched but of course, that didn't help.
They brawled.
I had to put the bubbles away, which helped. They ran out into the yard and played in their cars and all was well.
I wrestled them down for a nap about two hours ago.
I expect they'll be up any minute now, all smiles and sunshine!
We shall see.
