Last night I went out to Ty’s place to watch the opening game of the NCAADIII final four. Our Tommies played some team with two first names. Ty hooked up his computer and we streamed the game on his 60” TV.
The only words of that last sentence that I actually understand are “TY” and “TV”.
I couldn’t help but wonder at how the technology has progressed in the last few years. Jay has had teams play for national titles before. The first time was back in ’93, where our only option was to wait by the phone. I remember one national title game where a houseful of us got together with the computer, getting text updates every few seconds. The feed froze with a few seconds left in the game and we didn’t know what had happened till morning.
When Ty played, the option of video streaming existed but the picture was terrible and the feed was prone to freezing up.
Last night, it was just like watching a network broadcast from the pre HD era. The picture was a lot better than it was on our old, square TVs.
I love it when technology works.
I brought a big, thick, gorgeous salmon steak which we cooked up for dinner. Babydoll and Babalouie were excited to see Coach on TV. Babalouie saw no problems at all with playing some catch with me while I tried to eat my dinner and watch the game at the same time. We multi-tasked our way through the evening. Babydoll was actually more excited to see Tomcat on the big screen than her grandpa.
Our Tommies came out strong and determined. They jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first five minutes and although their opponents never let up and never let go, we managed to beat them back. Our guys played like they knew they belonged in the Winners circle. They were cool, calm, proficient and unflappable.
Our team is demonstrating the strength and skill developed over the course of the season. You always want your team to coalesce at the end of the season and that’s what they did last night.
It was a blast to watch.
Once more into the breach!
Tonight, CBS sports channel, live at 5:00, we watch as UST reaches for the brass ring. It won’t be easy: the opponent is unbeaten this year and clearly also believe they belong in the Champions seat.
Anything can happen.
Madness, baby.
