Babalouie turned three this week. I went out to the house for dinner. Jay couldn’t come along because he’s sick again. The poor guy has had about three weeks since Christmas when he felt good. He’s actually on three different prescriptions. While he was at the drugstore picking up his medicine, he did buy some presents for Babalouie, which I wrapped and brought with me. I made sure Babalouie knew the foam battle ax and sword were from Coach. I’d given him a police car when he was at our house on Saturday.
He’s the most fun kid to give presents to! His unbridled enthusiasm is all about the act of unwrapping and receiving, he doesn’t care what the gift is most of the time. Last summer, he unwrapped a cork three times and was equally delighted each time.
It had been an absolutely gorgeous day. I’d walked around the lake with my sister during the afternoon and it was an equally lovely evening. Ty did burgers on the grill and we had the screen door open until the sun set, taking the temperature with it.
The kids and I ate peanuts as an appetizer while Megan set the table. Dinner was great and afterwards it was time for opening presents.
Babalouie loved the foam weapons but his Mom and Dad gave him a Batman cave that was almost as tall as he is. It came with a Batman, a Joker, several different levels that included prison cells, weapons platforms and an elevator that went up through the middle. That’s impossible to compete with. The entire time Ty was freeing the thing from it’s packaging (he used his own utility belt) Babalouie danced around singing “Batman! Batman! Super hero!” doing karate kicks.
After trying out every part of the Bat cave, we finally ate some rainbow cup cakes. They were not as cool as the cave.
When Babalouie was born, I went down to Texas to take care of him because Megan’s maternity leave was up when she still had a month of school left. It was still the dead of winter when I left Minneapolis at the end of April. It was full summer when I got home a month later. Every year since he was born, spring has come early. He really is Mr. Sunshine.
