All I know for sure is that I'll take a blizzard and subzero temps over forest fires, mudslides, earthquakes and hurricanes all winter long, even if that means 8 months out of the year.
Because the reality is this: while the Carolinas are ducking and covering, I'm sitting here with my front door wide open, watching a junior high soccer game being played across the street in the sun drenched park. the trees are just beginning to tip toward their autumn colors, so things are more colorful and vibrant than they were a few weeks ago. The air is sultry, as it's supposed to get up into the 90s today, but we haven't had too much in the way of humidity since Labor Day. September and October are the best, most beautiful months of the year up in this part of the country.
I love it.
My Mom and Dad are getting settled in their new senior friendly digs. Jay got to see it all for the first time the other evening, when we went over there for dinner. As I expected, he looked at me and asked "How old do we have to be before we can move in here?"
Tyler and the kids were there, too and Xena and Babalouie loved it. I took them for a walk around the grounds before dinner. They wanted to see the pool, which may only be a therapy pool, I don't know but it was locked up. It's all windows, though, so we could see it all as we walked past. There's a big park with a playground right across the street, which we didn't have time to visit before dark, so we'll do that next time. After dinner, Mom and I took the kids on a tour of some of the other cool parts of the complex; the library, which they loved-Babalouie even found a children's book for them to read, the movie theater and the billiards room. Babalouie and I played a quick game of pool. When we returned to the apartment, Jay had cleaned up all the dinner dishes while he, Tyler and John G. talked.
A lovely time was had by all.
We had a new floor put in our kitchen a couple of weeks back and now I need to repaint the whole thing. I'm starting in the back hall, where we tore off the old wainscoting, as well as taking out the old back closet where our refrigerator has hidden for the last 20 years. Now the fridge is free and there's plenty of room for one of the new, larger models that are so popular these days. It's going to take me awhile to paint the whole kitchen because there's so much else that needs to be done every day as well. It's going to look fabulous!
