To tell you the truth, I’ve already forgotten most of Saturday. I remember the evening because we went down the Green Mill to celebrate Wes’s graduation from college.
Congrats, Wes!
Halfway to the restaurant, Jay asked me if I had the card with the check in it.
“No, I thought you had it.” I said.
“Nope. Got any money on you?”
“I’ve got five bucks.”
“We’ll give him that.”
We did not give him five bucks. He graduated from college, he didn’t lose a tooth. I told him we’d left the card behind and that I’d get it to him and I will.
My nephews, Cary, Logan and Hootie are all nodding and muttering “sure you will”. Hey guys; you didn’t invite me to your parties.
Did they?
Now I can’t remember.
Anyway, the party was fun.
Sunday was rainy and I painted all day. In addition to my orders, I’m painting a table and chair set I bought for my grandkids at a garage sale. It was white with pink roses stenciled all over it. My granddaughter is not a particularly pink rose kind of girl and her brother isn’t even remotely pink rose themed. I want to give it to both of them so I’m painting it with very bright, fun colors. Polka dots, checks, stripes, you name it, I’m painting it. I’m planning on throwing in an alphabet for good measure.
In case you were wondering what makes a color ‘fun’ the answer is in how you use it. Any color can be fun in the hands of the right person.
In this case; rosy blush, sweet pea, brilliant blue, calypso orange, sunshine yellow and mighty Aphrodite (a purple) plus some pure white and basic black. Fun!
Oh, and some metallic gold just because I can.
FUN.
There’s flooding in Texas. Ty, Megan and the kids were evacuated from their rental property. After selling the ranch, they moved into a cabin on the banks of the Blanco river for the month. The Blanco river is now running amok and killing people.
So far, my people have escaped it but not everyone has been so lucky. Pray for the folks in the flood plains.
Monday was gray and gloomy until around dinner time. Then we were treated to a typical spring time magic trick as the clouds slid away over the horizon and the evening was blue, green and gold. Jay and I dried off two of the chairs in our front yard and watched the sun inch down over the ball fields. Jay had thrown some chicken on the grill out back and we enjoyed the view while it cooked.
We ate in the back yard. The deck is all set up; tables, chairs, umbrellas. We haven’t laid down the carpets because we’ve been slowly sanding it. It’s huge (a square acre, I think) so the sanding is going slow but we’re making progress.
This is the best time of the year for eating on the deck because there aren’t any mosquitos yet.
Dinner was fabulous.
Eating beneath the canopy of our back yard trees, it really felt like summer was here.
The temps plummeted into the 40s after dark. We had to close our windows and turn on the heat. Oh well. The last Memorial Day we spent in Montana, we had to grill indoors because of all the fresh snow.
I like it to be cool at night but 46 is a bit much for late May.
Tuesday was cold and rainy again. I got a lot of work done. Today was gorgeous; low 80s, slight humidity and blue, blue skies.
Zack flew to Texas this afternoon; he’s driving Tyler’s car home while Ty flies up with the kids. I walked around the lake with MJ and the girls and Katie McC joined us on the far side of the lake. It felt great to stretch my legs after spending the last four days crouched on my office floor, painting tiny furniture.
Right now, the park is full of baseball players and a crowd of adults playing some kind of team frisby game.
I’m just waiting for Jay to get home and cook me dinner.
Life is so good.
