First, here's how the flowers in my yard are looking:
I have gotten into my outdoor studio a few times and part of my plan was to paint for an hour out there every day last week. I didn't set up my easel out there once. First, it was rainy, then I had #6 and she didn't want to hang out back there. Then...things fell apart.
Literally. I pulled open my file cabinet to retrieve a pattern and the drawer fell apart. Long boring story short, I spent two days putting together two new hanging file cabinets. The worst part wasn't the time spent making my office as efficient as it had been on Monday, or trying to haul the very heavy boxes in which the cabinets came up into my second floor office space or having to pay over $200.00 for something I had last week; no, the worst part was how every muscle in my body ached after spending two days on a tiny footstool, screwing, gluing and pounding the new cabinets together. They look great. They hold more files than the old one did. I actually kept the box of the old one. The drawers are gone but I used the body of it to keep my larger canvases straight and my French easel fits there, too. So my office is much neater now, which makes me happy.
Sometimes, things just happen that remind you of how lucky you are when your plans work.
Sunday I got to hang with BoopityBoop all day. We went to Mass at Basilica, had coffee and donuts afterwards and then they wanted to check out all the artwork in the undercroft. They were especially enchanted with all the different Nativity sets on display. I think they liked those almost as much as they enjoyed the donuts. We took the scenic route home around all the lakes. We discussed our favorites and they both agreed that their favorite lake is the one where their dad took them fishing. Good call!
Later in the afternoon, we went to the park, baked some cookies, had a picnic in my outdoor studio and played a rousing game of Yahtzee, which Boopity won, even though I'm the only one who actually rolled Yahtzee.
This week started out on a great note. I just hope it continues in this vein. If I'm very lucky, I may even get back out to paint in the outdoor studio.
