Good Friday was lovely, nearly 70 degrees. Jay and I walked around the lake. Despite the stay at home order and social distancing, there were lots...tons of people walking, biking and skating on the parkways, I assume all over town. I hope so.
On Holy Saturday, I went to buy the fruit for the big fruit salad I planned on putting together for Easter dinner. I went to Aldi where the fruit was all very inexpensive and I found that they had priced all the Easter Candy to go. I'd already gotten a few chocolate bunnies but when I saw that everything was under a dollar, I stocked up. I got more bunnies, Brach's jelly beans, Butterfinger eggs, Dove chocolates, Cadbury eggs...all well under a buck!
We woke up Easter morning to this:
The original Pivec Easter Bash planned for Pam and Steve's house had been cancelled when the entire state was placed under house arrest, quarantine, better be safe than sorry, whatever you want to call it. We invited our kids to our house but most opted to stay home, hunkered down with their kids. Zack and his girl friend, S did come.
I invited my parents too. I figured Jay and Mom were both over the virus and Dad, Zack and I had all been exposed when they were sick so there was no danger but in the end, Dad didn't feel so good on Sunday so they opted for wisdom over sentiment.
So in addition to no Easter Sunday Mass, it was only four of us for dinner.
But we had a fabulous time!
The food was incredible; in addition to a big spiral cut ham, Jay cooked a Manhattan roast and we had the fruit salad, hot cross buns, hash brown potatoes and a few other sides I can't even remember. Zack brought bread pudding and S brought a chocolate torte she'd made that was out of this world.
Later in the evening, I packed up a big care bag and brought a bit of everything to Mom and Dad. Then Jay and I watched Jesus Christ Superstar (the John Legend version) on TV.
It was a strange Easter but still Easter.
And that's the Best News Ever!!
