So naturally, I had to cripple myself yesterday.
I’ve been so busy with work, Christmas projects and presents, telling myself I still had a week that I let some things slide…things like housework, which I’ve actually let slide since about…August.
I’ve never been Suzy Homemaker. The best thing my Mother ever taught me was that a spotless house is over rated. There are always better things to do than vacuum and dust never killed anyone.
Now, as an adult, I realize that both my parents are just this side of being hoarders and the tendency is pretty strong in myself but I’m still grateful that I wasn’t raised to obsess over housework.
Besides, I find it much more gratifying to clean the house when it makes a huge difference. I mean, if I’m going to break my back and bust a sweat vacuuming, you better be able to tell the difference.
So then I realized that Ty, Megan and the grandkids are actually going to be here today and spend a night before heading west to the farm. Ty is allergic to the cat so I had to vacuum every single surface in the house that collects cat hair, which includes the walls.
I had one day to get everything cleaned up.
I spent the bulk of the day painting a portrait.
Isn’t that what everyone does when the house is a pig sty and company is expected the next morning?
Hey, you have to strike while the muse is hot.
Josie arrived on the megabus at 2:30. She helped me bake devil cookies and clean up. We went to the 5:00 mass and the grocery store. By the time I got home, it was time to go to Jay’s basketball game…or not. Josie had friends to meet up with and I decided to skip the game. Instead of watching a barn burner of a game (we won by 2), I finished the vacuuming, cleaned all the bathrooms and mopped the kitchen floor while simultaneously coloring my hair. I felt very efficient! I had a bowl of cereal for dinner at 9:30, made orange meltaways and crashed in the recliner to watch two episodes of Arrested Development. Season 4 had arrived in the mail the day before. I was so tired after my long day; any day in which I do more than one thing is a looonnng day in my book, that I went to bed shortly after 11:00. My entire body ached. I tend to forget how strenuous housework can be. That must be another reason why I avoid it.
I woke up when Jay got home so he told me all about the basketball game.
The kids arrived at 8:40 this morning. The airline lost most of their luggage so after a giant breakfast, cooked by Coach, Ty and Megan ran to Target to get themselves some clothes and diapers. The kid’s bags made it through. Hopefully, the rest of their luggage will arrive tonight but we ladies have theater tix for tonight and Megan doesn’t want to wear the clothes she slept in.
She’s kinda fussy for a cowgirl.
Babalouie just crashed and Bananas and Punkin are here to play with Babydoll. Everyone is having a delightful time!
I think I’ll sneak into the shower.
