My kids are all grown up now. I haven’t tried to talk any of them into calling in sick to work to go to the Arboretum but I think they would if I suggested it.
My sister’s kids are still little. Today was Arboretum Day.
She picked the perfect day for it! After a weekend of cold rain, the work week dawned bright and sunny. Josie and I joined Katie, MJ and the kids.
I’m guessing the trees were a few days past peek but a lot of them were still blazing away, gloriously. The sky was that deep cobalt blue we only see this time of the year. The sky was actually a darker color than some of the trees set against it. We did the three mile walk and Josie took all the kids into the maze when we arrived. We were out in the garden for over two hours and in that time, it got warm enough to take off the jackets we’d begun the walk wearing. There was very little breeze and even without any blooms left in the gardens, it was a gorgeous walk, every step of the way.
Josie and I were home in twenty minutes, eating what was left of the chicken wings from the night before. She has a friend who needs a mattress so we shoved her old one in the back of my van and she took it while I got some work done.
Just before 4:00, I was so tired I couldn’t sit up straight so I went to take a short nap.
After spending the morning walking in the fresh air, I was more tired than I thought. I fell sound asleep. I woke up two hours later and thought it was morning. I thought to myself “If it’s after 8:00. I’ll get up.” Then I looked at the clock and it said 5:55.
For about three seconds, I was confused as heeeeeel.
Jay did shish-kabobs for dinner. They were delicious.
It’s supposed to stay gorgeous all week.
