I can hardly believe how quickly it was Friday again. Especially since I had so much fun things to do since my last painting class!
Speaking of which, I've been listening to the Wicked soundtrack all week. What a good show! That's one I'll definitely want to see again when it comes back to town.
I got a good night's sleep and woke at seven. I am not a morning person. I never have been. Even when my kids were little, their school was on the latest schedule: classes starting at 10:30, which was great for me in the morning but stinky in the afternoon. They didn't get home until close to 5:00. There was no time for anything between school and sports, so homework had to be done in the morning. The day Josie was old enough to have friends who could drive her to school, I went back to my old, sleeping past 8:00 ways.
I'm not good at getting up. And when I am up, I take a long time to ease into the day. I like quiet. It's hard to remember sometimes but that was one of the biggest adjustments Jay and I had to make to each other when we got married. He leaps out of bed in the morning singing, ready to seize the day and I drag myself out like a vampire, growling and squinting at the sun. It hardly matters what time I get to bed or how well I sleep, my brain doesn't want to turn on until 8:00.
But
I always wake up early when I've got a project I'm really excited about. Like a kid on Christmas morning, I wake up and jump on the day. But I still don't want to talk before my second cup of coffee.
This morning was clear and sunny. Traffic was terrible on 62, thanks to a car in the ditch in the east bound lane but once I hit 212, I was able to make the jump to light speed and I got to the studio just after 9:00. We caravanned over to a park nearby. There, we hiked through the woods and down to the bottom of a ravine, where a creek winds through the woods. Three of us set up near a bend in the creek and our forth member was just through to woods on the other side of the water. Down in the ravine, there was no wind at all, which was nice. It was sunny and got warm enough to take off my jacket right away.
Painting was really fun. I have no handle on the pigments at all, yet. I need to take a few afternoons to just mess around with the paint. It behaves very differently from anything I'm used to and the colors don't react to each other the same way acrylic does. For some reason, I'm very stingy with the paint. I need to get comfortable using it: that's what it's for. Paint isn't doing me any good staying in a tube. so that's the homework I'm giving myself.
Great, that's just what I need: another assignment. I've had people waiting for their next installments for a year and I'm giving myself jobs.
Oh well, as I've told clients before, you can have it fast or you can have it good, you can't always have both.
And you can't have anything before 8:00 in the morning.
