The bathroom has been functional since Halloween; working shower, sink and toilet. But it took four months for the carpenter to get the closet and trim up. We gave up even worrying about it. Things would happen when they could. I was happy to have a bathroom again but was excited to get around to painting it and getting rid of the ugly, black plastic $19.00 set of shelves we got at Home Depot to hold towels and toilet paper.
A week ago, the custom built linen closet finally went in. It's lovely! And it has whisper close hinges.
So this week, I got some more paint to do the trim (enamel, not latex) and some tint to throw into the leftover wall paint. I knew I didn't want to leave the walls white. I wanted the cabinet and trim white, the walls the next tint up on the color chip and the ceiling one tone darker than the walls. So I bought a tester pint of the darkest color on the chip (Benjamin Moore's Gossamer Blue; it's gorgeous!) and mixed my own tint. I do that all the time. Up in my office is a veritable laboratory of testers and old pickle jars full of paint I mixed. Testers are one of my favorite things: I only need a pint for most projects. The walls and ceiling of the bathroom will be very soft and subtle but the two doors of this jack and jill bathroom are going to be bright, tropical colors. The shower curtain is colorful, with green palm fronds and brightly colored tropical birds. I'm pulling colors out of the curtain to put on the doors. I'm thinking of going glossy, too.
I also bought some tropical print contact paper for inside the linen cabinet. I've got some plans for the inside that will be a fun surprise.
I've got a ton of work to do and I should spend today cranking out more needlepoint but all I want to do is go get the paint and then shop for cupboard door handles.
Work before play. Sometimes I hate being a grown up.
No I don't; I can afford to buy all the paint I want!
