“Have a good day!” the fellow said as he handed me back my membership card and waved me on.
It was 8:30 on a crystal blue September morning and I was at the Arboretum to paint. How could I have anything but a good day? There were three of us and we started under the pavilion below the garden, attempting to capture the bounce of sunlight off the pond. We had to work fast, as the sun was rising over the hills so quickly that the reflection moved all the way across the pond while we painted.
An hour and a half in, the view had completely changed, so we packed up and moved across the parking lot to the gardens on that side. We set up in different spots for our second canvases. I didn’t get very far with my second one but I liked what I had so far when lunch time hit, so I consider that a success.
After lunch, MJ and I took Tot in the stroller down the parkway. We got all the way to the highway and back before it was time for her to pick up the girls from school. I had just enough time to crank out a few orders before I got a text from Katie, asking if I wanted to walk around the lake.
It was still a perfect clear, blue day, so I washed my brushes and went to Katie’s. MJ and all her kids met us too, and we took the whole parade around the lake.
I had to paint until Jay got home at 8:00 to make up for taking the whole day off but it was worth it. He brought a pizza home from Bunny’s for dinner.
I usually refinish furniture in September because the weather is perfect for it: cool and dry. This year has not been conducive to refinishing: it still rains all the time and the weather has been either too cold or too hot. Last weekend we had three days in the high nineties!
The Tommie/Johnnie football game took place last Saturday at Target Field, setting DIII football attendance records. It’s hard to think ‘college football’ when it’s 90 degrees. We had the central air on for the first time in a month. Last Sunday, we finally had Josie’s graduation party. It was still unseasonably hot but had cooled down just enough to be comfortable on the deck, in the shade. It was a fun party!
Zack’s birthday was this week too. He didn’t want a cake or a party; just French dinner and fudge crispies, so that’s what we did. It was perfect.
September is the best month of the year, if you ask me.
Exept for maybe October.
