BoopityBoop were baptized into the Christian faith today. They seemed very happy with the whole procedure.
They arrived at the church with their parents, dressed in matching white sundresses adorned with multicolored dots along the hem and pink ribbons at the shoulder. Boopity wore a pink bow on her nearly bald head and Boop wore purple. Their feet were strapped into darling little baby shoes that wouldn’t stay on. Boopity kicked hers off before we even took our seats.
Lots of family members were in attendance.
Katie and Adam each chose a pair of Godparents from their vast pool of friends and relatives and invited the rest to come celebrate the event with a brunch afterwards.
My job was a sheet cake, which I picked up at Sam’s club. It was a chocolate cake with red trim and big red and yellow roses. I bought some icing and put the girls’ names on it.
Yesterday, it rained off and on all day but this morning had only a light overcast with moments of sunshine and fluctuating temperatures.
Another little boy was baptized this morning, also. He cried when the water was poured on his head but not our girls! They were perfectly behaved throughout the mass until it was time for their baptism and neither of them objected with so much as a peep as the water and oil was poured on their little noggins.
I had Boopity on my lap for most the of the mass. She was determined to wrest the glasses off my face and eat them. I was only worried about her breaking the beaded chain they’re on and choking on a bead. Nothing broke and the slobber on my glasses wiped off easily with the hanky I keep in my bag. When she wasn’t gnawing on my glasses, Boopity was busy flirting with everyone in the row behind us.
The party was a smashing success!
The food was all good and the company even better. The weather held, despite a loud roll of thunder that brought conversation to a brief halt. The noise wasn’t backed up by any action on the part of the clouds so we all just went on having a good time and sure enough, the storm slinked off to the south like a bully who’d been told to go home to Mamma.
In addition to the four different kinds of egg baked dishes, we had fruit salad, croissants, and mimosas. Meg baked two different kinds of mini cupcakes to go along with the cake.
There were several yard games set up for the kids and while they all played everything, the most popular thing in the whole back yard seemed to be the hammock. Getting in it and staying in it was a challenge none of the kids could resist.
Jay and I headed home around three in the afternoon. We were exhausted. It was warm and sunny when we got home. Jay took a nap and I was tempted but I had a cup of coffee instead. I got a bit of work done. I didn’t paint anything: I learned a long time ago that painting while tired produces nothing worthwhile.
Shortly after we got home, another storm rolled over us and by the time we had dinner, it was raining. I’m writing this on the porch with all the windows open as a light, fresh rain falls outside. It smells like Heaven.
Jay made dinner earlier than usual. We had salmon, corn, broiled tomatoes and grilled zucchini with a sprinkle of parmesan cheese.
Today was a very happy day.
